As rain poured over downtown Amman, the imam’s voice echoed outside the Grand Husseini Mosque during Friday prayer. Moments later, the crowd erupted—Palestinian and Jordanian flags waved high, and chants filled the streets.
“My family is in Palestine and Jordan!” one man cried out to the crowd. “They are martyrs!”

On Feb. 7, 2025, protests erupted in downtown Amman in solidarity with Palestine, following U.S. President Donald Trump’s controversial call on January 26 to “clean out” Gaza and relocate its population to Jordan and Egypt. In a country where many citizens have Palestinian roots, the remarks sparked widespread outrage.

Jordan’s Foreign Minister, Ayman Safadi, firmly responded: “Jordan is for Jordanians, Palestine is for Palestinians.”
